WHAT IS SIN?
Appendix - The
Here are the complete Scripture references from the 10 lists of sinful
activities in the section: Individual Sins,
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions.
For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against
nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,
burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is
shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which
And even as they did not like to retain God in their
knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things
which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual
immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy,
murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,
backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil
things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving,
unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God,
that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only
do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not
inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators,
nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor
extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are:
adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery,
hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish
ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness,
revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I
also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will
not inherit the kingdom of God.
But fornication and all uncleanness or
covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for
saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting,
which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know,
that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an
idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no
one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the
wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be
partakers with them.
Therefore put to death your members which are on
the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and
covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of
God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
|1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
For this is the will of God, your sanctification:
that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you
should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no
one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter,
because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you
and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in
As Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them
in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual
immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example,
suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh,
reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. Yet Michael the
archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the
body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but
said, "The Lord rebuke you!" But these speak evil of whatever they do
not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in
these things they corrupt themselves. Woe to them! For they have gone
in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for
profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable,
murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall
have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which
is the second death.
But there shall by no means enter it anything that
defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie,
But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually
immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a
